Physicians can be board-certified in the same specialty, but may sub-specialize and practice in different areas. Courts would not allow a pediatric oncologist or a pediatric rheumatologist testify against a pediatric neonatologist simply because they all share a board certification in pediatrics.
The Litigation Center of the American Medical Association and State Medical Societies and the Michigan State Medical Society (MSMS) are asking the Michigan Supreme Court to reverse an appellate-court decision that allowed a neuroradiologist to be the plaintiff’s expert in a case against a diagnostic radiologist.
